PRESENTATION OF THE COURSE

The medicine market, and especially that of highly specialised pharmaceutical products like hemoderivatives, has drastically evolved over the past few years, as a direct and logical result of profound changes in medicine itself. In this regard, both the role of the physician as well as that of the pharmaceutical industry has definitely become more complex. If the doctor must now also have management skills, on the other hand the person who is responsible for the management of the drug cannot ignore certain medical aspects in which their sales strategies are based.

The educational objective of this course is to provide to all those in a pharmaceutical company who are involved in the manufacturing/distribution process the basic scientific knowledge to better understand the area where there products are used. The course is also useful for anyone who is being exposed to the world of haemostasis for the first time (postgraduates/students) and is looking for a quick and innovative learning tool. The course was developed by Dr. Marco Marietta, director of the Haemostasis and Thrombosis Centre of the University-Hospital of Modena, Italy, in collaboration with Kedrion SpA.

The Course's structure and teaching method are designed to encourage as much active participation from the users as possible, through the use of innovative training tools focused on interactive learning.

STRUCTURE OF THE COURSE

The topics covered in the course are the following:

a) Basic haemostasis;
b) Haemophilia A and B;
c) Haemophilia with inhibitors;
d) von Willebrand Disease;
e) Acquired coagulopathies and Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC);
f) Haemorrhages from oral anticoagulants.


Each module has a .ppt presentation which is designed to provide the basic understanding of the topic and the available therapies. The presentations are accompanied by notes from the presenter that explain the contents of the slides in further detail. An audio file of the slide notes is also available. To proceed to the next presentation, the user must pass a self-assessment questionnaire. At the end of each module is a section that analyzes the strong and weak points of the products through simulated clinical cases, which apply the information acquired in the previous steps.
